NAIFA Statement on SEC Commissioner Roisman

“NAIFA congratulates Elad Roisman on his Senate confirmation as SEC commissioner and looks forward to working with him and the commission on issues of importance to NAIFA members across the country and the Main Street clients they serve,” said NAIFA CEO Kevin Mayeux.

NAIFA recently submitted comments to the SEC on the commission’s best-interest standard of conduct proposal. In the comments, NAIFA President Keith Gillies voiced support for a best-interest standard and for the SEC’s role as the primary regulator at the federal level of broker-dealers and registered representatives. However, NAIFA suggested several changes to the proposed rule, including the streamlining of proposed disclosure obligations and withdrawal or revision of proposed restrictions on broker-dealers and their registered representatives using the titles “adviser” or “advisor.”
