The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors has recognized Cherri Coombs Ohmer, LUTCF, with the association’s most prestigious honor in association management: the C. Carney Smith Award. Ohmer is the Association Executive of NAIFA-Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Congratulations to Cherri for receiving the 2018 C. Carney Smith Award,” said NAIFA President Keith Gillies, CFP, LUTCF, FSS. “Cherri’s high level of accomplishment is a testament to the tenacity and passion she brings to all aspects of her career. She is committed to professional growth and provides NAIFA members with the highest level of service.”

The C. Carney Smith Award was created to honor the legacy of C. Carney Smith, CLU, who served as the National Association's Executive Vice President for 15 years, ending in 1978. Established in 1976, the award promotes the advancement of professionalism in the field of association management among NAIFA state and local associations. Through the years, it has come to symbolize a lifetime achievement award for association executives. Recipients are chosen by their peers, who strive to select executives who embody the very best of what NAIFA stands for: education, involvement, integrity and service to others.

Ohmer’s notable achievements include:
  • She graduated from LILI in 2017, the first Association Executive to complete the LILI program in Florida.
  • She was awarded NAIFA- Florida’s Stanley L. Stone Association Executive of the Year in 2007 and 2010.
  • She began a campaign to raise $25,000 for an endowment at Wolfson Children's Hospital. The campaign was completed within the three-year time frame and exists today in the name of NAIFA-Jacksonville.
  • Her connections in the industry have allowed the association to secure well-known speakers for local events.
  • Thanks to Ohmer’s record- keeping and knowledge of events, the association has been credited with many awards, including the Jack Bobo Award.
  • She has saved the local association a lot of money over the years by preparing quarterly returns and providing proper documentation to the CPA at year end.
  • She was awarded the C.G. Snead/J.F. Bryan Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to the Insurance industry - 2009,  the NAIFA Jacksonville Community Service Award - 2003, and the Paul Harris Fellow in March 2014.
“Cherri has been a member of our association first and then took over as our executive around 20 years ago,” Michael W. Halloran, CLU, ChFC, CFP, AEP, immediate pastpresident of NAIFA-Jacksonville. “She was not only our executive, she has been the glue that has kept our group together. The Jacksonville association would not have been anything without Cherri’s help and guidance.”

She works tirelessly to educate members and prospects about the value of NAIFA, as well as to renew lapsed members.

Ohmer will receive the award at the Leadership Luncheon during NAIFA’s Performance + Purpose 2018 Conference in San Antonio.
