NAIFA Participation in WIFS Conference Highlights Advocacy Partnership

NAIFA Senior Vice President, Government Relations Diane Boyle participated in a panel discussion on current legislative and regulatory challenges during the annual conference of Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS) in Louisville.

Boyle, along with her fellow panelist Chris Morton of AALU and moderator Colleen Bell of Cambridge Investment Research and the WIFS Education Director, discussed the importance of grassroots advocacy in Washington and every state capital on issues ranging from standard of care regulations for financial professionals to retirement measures, including the federal SECURE Act and state efforts to create government-sponsored retirement plans.

NAIFA has partnered with WIFS and other groups, including the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) Asian American Insurance & Financial Professional Association (AAIFPA), Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies (LAAIA), National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA), and Society of Financial Services Professionals (FSP), to collaborate on advocacy issues important to the insurance and financial services industry, financial professionals, and consumers who depend on their products and services.

Boyle told the attendees that the grassroots army of NAIFA members and our industry partners serve a vital role in protecting financial professionals and their clients. NAIFA has members in every congressional district around the country and an advocacy presence in every state capital. Agents and advisor are the best advocates on behalf of their Main Street clients.

Boyle encouraged WIFS members to make their advocacy voices heard. “Being politically active is easy,” she said. “You just have to show up.”

NAIFA encourages WIFS members to participate in the annual NAIFA Congressional Conference, scheduled in Washington, D.C., for March 19-20 next year. Attendees receive valuable grassroots advocacy training and motivation and visit their members of Congress in the largest day on the Hill event in the insurance industry.

WIFS members may also make use of NAIFA’s new Advocacy Action Center.
