National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors

NAIFA Members to Convene for National Advocacy Meeting

(FALLS CHURCH, Va., Nov. 19, 2018) – NAIFA members will convene for the National Advocacy Meeting in Washington for advocacy training and updates on issues affecting the industry and consumers in the wake of the midterm elections. Sessions will take place Nov. 27-28 at the Marriott Renaissance DC Downtown. On Nov. 29, over 100 NAIFA members will meet with lawmakers for a Day on the Hill event.
“NAIFA looks forward to working with the senators and representatives of the 116th Congress,” said NAIFA CEO Kevin Mayeux, CAE. “There will be dozens of new members who may not be fully aware of the vital role that insurance and financial advisors play in ensuring the financial security of 90 million American families, making our advocacy efforts and grassroots outreach more important than ever. We will also, of course, have an entirely new group of House committee chairs. Fortunately, NAIFA members have existing relationships, as constituents and activists, with returning members from both parties in the House and Senate, so we are poised to hit the ground running.”
Among the speakers on Nov. 27 will be Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), NAIFA President Jill Judd and Mayeux. Sessions on Nov. 28 include legislative updates at both the state and federal levels, presented by members of NAIFA’s government relations team as well as conversation with Rep. Brad Schneider’s Chief of Staff Ashley Jones, and presentations by Dunn & Associates and the Congressional Management Foundation.
On Nov. 29, NAIFA members will travel to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and their staffs to discuss how advisors are a critical component of an industry that serves as a private-sector safety net for families by providing financial and retirement security through life insurance, retirement plans and annuities, and long-term care, and disability income insurance.
