Easy-to-follow instructions on the use of the streamlined electronic non-resident license application process are available on the NIPR website.
NAIFA members with active resident licenses in any state can apply through the NIPR website for non-resident licenses from the 46 "non-resident license states" listed below. (NIPR is working to add additional non-resident license states.) Available non-resident licenses are in the following six major lines of authority: life, health, property, casualty, personal lines, and variable contracts. The NIPR website has detailed information about state-specific requirements.
Non-Resident License States: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
NIPR, which operates the electronic non-resident application process, is a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). NAIC created NIPR in 1996 to act as a central nationwide source of producer licensing data and to provide a system for the electronic exchange of producer information. These efforts have enabled the creation of the online non-resident producer license application process. NAIFA shares a seat on the NIPR Board of Directors on a rotating basis with other insurance producer trade associations. NAIFA Vice President Bill Anderson has represented NAIFA on the NIPR Board and has been instrumental in assisting with the development of the new electronic non-resident licensing system. NIPR's Board also includes state insurance regulators and other insurance industry representatives.
