FALLS CHURCH, VA (May 19, 2010) — The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), the country’s largest financial services membership organization, has hired Sheila Owens as Vice President of Communications and Marketing. Owens will provide overall direction in strategic communications, media relations and marketing at NAIFA.

Owens has more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, social media, website management and marketing, and NAIFA CEO Susan Waters said the association is excited about the new direction NAIFA's communications efforts will take under Owens leadership. “Sheila’s extensive experience in strategic communications will benefit our members in ensuring that the industry’s perspective is understood and appreciated by policymakers, the news media and consumers,” Waters said.

Owens previously served as vice president of communications and marketing for the Washington, D.C.-based Airports Council International (ACI), a trade association representing airports. Before joining ACI, Owens held positions at the Newspaper Association of America, the Freedom Forum/Newseum, and Gannett Company/USA Today.

Owens said she is looking forward to working with the NAIFA officers and its exceptional staff and members in advancing the industry’s priorities and positions on the Hill and to other key constituents. “In these unprecedented times, it is critical that NAIFA’s voice is heard and that our communications programs are aimed at shaping discussions about the future of our business, which is so closely tied to America’s economic future and current recovery,” she explained.
