FALLS CHURCH, VA (October 1, 2009) — Each September, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) joins with the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) and more than 100 of the nation’s leading insurance companies and other industry groups to celebrate Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM). This year, NAIFA was pleased to lead the effort to once again have September proclaimed by Congress as National Life Insurance Awareness Month.
The 2009 LIAM initiative was a great success, highlighted by outstanding media, public relations, and political outreach efforts to build awareness of the value of life insurance and the financial security life insurance products provide in troubling times.
“Since the creation of the LIFE Foundation, NAIFA has been actively involved in the organization’s advocacy at the national and grassroots levels,” comments NAIFA President Tom Currey. “NAIFA’s members and professional staff have added to, and have certainly benefited from, LIFE’s awareness and educational efforts ... particularly Life Insurance Awareness Month.”
On Tuesday, September 29, the House of Representatives passed Resolution 16 supporting the goals and ideals of LIAM. The resolution boasted 59 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle. A companion resolution, S.R. 211, had previously passed the Senate, making the effort both bipartisan and bicameral.
Voicing her support for the resolution, Illinois Congresswoman Judy Biggert stated, “Our collective goal for the month is to make families more aware of their life insurance needs and encourage them to seek professional advice, as well as take the actions necessary to provide financial security for their loved ones.”
“We thank Representatives Biggert and Kanjorski, as well as Senators Chambliss and Nelson and the many co-sponsors for introducing and passing these resolutions,” continues Currey. “The life insurance industry appreciates congressional efforts to motivate Americans to seek information about the benefits of life insurance so that the premature death of a loved one does not bring with it economic hardships that too often accompany tragedy.”
