September 20, 2007 (FALLS CHURCH, VA) — NAIFA’s National Council has given its support to NAIFA 21 strategic plan and the Connections that Count program by approving four bylaws amendments, including funding for several exciting new initiatives.
- A career resource center to meet the needs of agents and advisors in every practice specialty, distribution channel or career stage (novice, middle or accomplished).
- Enhancements to NAIFA's political programs to strengthen our advocacy leadership position. Plans are to enhance and grow our grassroots programs and lobbying efforts, and to more effectively communicate NAIFA's legislative and regulatory activities.
- Unique networking opportunities at the local, state and national levels, between members, experts, professionals from other disciplines and the public through the use of a national interactive database, online chats and forums, and in-person events.
- A multifaceted marketing communications campaign. NAIFA has hired the public relations firm Porter Novelli, which has presented a campaign to create an emotional connection with members, differentiate NAIFA from our competitors and pique interest among non-members.

"We are excited about the new benefits and services this approval will allow us to offer to NAIFA members," said new NAIFA President Jeffrey Taggart. “NAIFA 21 and the Connections that Count plan will keep us going in the right direction and help us build a stronger future for our association, for our members and for our clients."
The new initiatives, which will be rolled out over the next two years, will be funded by a $49 dues increase, effective January 1, 2008.
Three other bylaw amendments were also approved. These will:
- Allow members to join the NAIFA federation, for membership in the local, state and national associations. Previously, members only joined the local association.
- Require local and state associations to use a NAIFA-(location) name.
- Create a separate standing Committee on Communications.
All amendments to NAIFA’s bylaws must be voted on by NAIFA's representative governing body, the National Council, which convenes each year during NAIFA Convention and Career Conference. The 2007 convention was held September 8-12 in Washington, DC.
