Robert O. Smith is the Estate and Business Planning Specialist with the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Western Michigan Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is a former Assistant Director of the Advanced Marketing Department for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, a former president of the Financial Representatives Association of Northwestern Mutual Life, and a former president of the Western Michigan Estate Planning Council. Mr. Smith is also former president of the Michigan Association of Life Insurance Counselors, a former Director for the American Society of Financial Services Professionals and former president of the Society’s Western Michigan Chapter.
Mr. Smith is a past president of NAIFA-Michigan and was elected NAIFA Secretary in September 2010, NAIFA President-Elect in September 2011, and is set to take the presidency this September at the NAIFA 2012 Career Conference & Annual Meeting. He has been a national speaker on estate planning and executive benefits topics, and is a former instructor for the School of Advanced Studies for the American Society of Financial Services Professionals. Mr. Smith is also a former instructor for the Advanced Planning and Advanced Sales Consultant Academies for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. He is a member of AALU, and a qualifying and life member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). Mr. Smith received the Distinguished Service Award from NAIFA-Grand Rapids in 2003, and the Marvin E. Muilenberg Distinguished Service Award from NAIFA-Michigan in 2008.
