NAIFA President Gaudreau to Testify at Congressional Hearing, Rep. Roskam to Speak at NAIFA Event

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, NAIFA President Jules Gaudreau will testify before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce at a hearing on the “Principles for Ensuring Retirement Advice Serves the Best Interests of Working Families and Retirees.”

Gaudreau’s testimony will focus on three main themes:
  1. The Critical need for main street Americans to access financial advice and our concern that the Department of Labor’s (DOL’s) proposal as drafted will create barriers to middle and lower income persons receiving financial advice. We continue to have a savings crisis in America and impeding the providing of advice will only exacerbate that problem.
  2. NAIFA supports a bipartisan legislative alternative to the DOL proposal built on principles that would protect savers without implementing complex rules that become a barrier to achieving the goal of post‐retirement financial security.
  3. A revised rule issued in final form makes it exponentially more difficult to address unintended flaws before they negatively impact middle‐income savers. We urge Congress to adopt a sound legislative alternative to DOL’s proposed fiduciary proposal.
Rep. Roskam to Speak at NAIFA Meeting on Retirement Security Legislative Principles

Also on Dec. 2, Rep. Peter J. Roskam (R – Ill.) will address attendees at NAIFA's annual political action/political involvement training meeting.

Rep. Roskam serves on the Committee on Ways and Means. He, along with four other members of the House, announced on Nov. 5 that they are preparing a legislative alternative to the Department of Labor’s proposed best interest rule for financial advisors who work with people planning for retirement. The bipartisan group of lawmakers released a series of legislative principles that will help strengthen the retirement security of working families and ensure retirement advisors protects their clients’ best interests.
