NAIFA Applauds Senate Resolution Supporting Life Insurance Awareness Month

The U.S. Senate on October 12 passed a Life Insurance Awareness Month resolution sponsored by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) along with Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), and Bill Nelson (D-FL).

Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), which occurs September of every year, is an opportunity to talk to people in your community about their life insurance needs at a time when life insurance may already be on their minds. A recent LIMRA study found that 30 percent of households (35 million) have no life insurance coverage. Today there are 11 million fewer American households covered by life insurance compared with just six years ago.

Each September, NAIFA joins with the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) and more than 100 of the nation’s leading insurance companies and other industry groups to celebrate LIAM.  This year, NAIFA was pleased to lead the effort to once again have September proclaimed by the Senate.

NAIFA will continue to work with the LIFE Foundation and industry partners to raise awareness about the important role life insurance plays in the financial security of American households.
