NAIFA Sends Letter to Capitol Hill Outlining Position on Insurance Regulation
Issue: Insurance Regulatory Reform
Date: April 27, 2009
Action Taken: Today NAIFA sent a letter to members of the U.S. Congress outlining the association’s position on insurance regulatory reform efforts which are currently in play. The letter explains NAIFA’s commitment to improving state-based insurance regulation while also supporting federal efforts to improve insurance regulation, provided those efforts protect consumers and ensure a vibrant insurance marketplace.
In the letter, NAIFA details its support for:
- The concept of an optional federal charter provided it can meet with NAIFA’s Themes and Conditions;
- The National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers (NARAB II), which would serve as a national licensure clearinghouse for insurance producers and;
- The concept of an Office of Insurance Information, which would provide expertise on the insurance industry at both the federal and international levels.
